If you work or plan to work in the private security industry in South Africa, being registered with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) is essential. PSIRA registration confirms that you are qualified and authorized to work in the security sector. Once you’ve applied for registration, you can easily check your PSIRA status online to know if your application has been approved or if your certificate is ready.

Here’s how to check your PSIRA status online quickly and accurately.

    1. Visit the Official PSIRA Website

The first step is to go to the official PSIRA website at www.psira.co.za. This is the only trusted site for checking your registration status. Avoid any unofficial websites or links shared on social media, as they may be fraudulent.

Once you’re on the homepage, look for the menu labeled “Online Services” or “PSIRA Verification.” This section provides various tools for checking your application and registration information.

    1. Go to the Online Verification Portal

Click on “Online Verification” under the online services section. This will take you to the PSIRA verification page where you can check the status of your registration, certificate, or grade.

You can also go directly to the portal using the link https://www.psira.co.za/psira/verifications.

    1. Choose the Type of Verification

On the verification page, PSIRA provides several options for checking different types of information, such as:

    • Individual registration status (for security officers)
    • Company registration status (for security businesses)
    • Certificate or grade verification

If you are an individual security officer, select “Individual Verification.”

    1. Enter Your PSIRA Number or ID Number

Once you’ve selected the correct option, you’ll be prompted to enter your PSIRA registration number or South African ID number.

    • Type in your number carefully in the provided field.
    • Double-check to make sure there are no typing errors.
    • Click “Submit” or “Search.”

The system will process your request and display your registration details, including your PSIRA status, grade, and certificate validity.

    1. Check Your PSIRA Status via SMS

If you don’t have access to the internet, PSIRA also allows you to check your registration status using an SMS service.

    Here’s how to do it:

    1. Open your phone’s messaging app.
    2. Type your PSIRA number (for example, 12345678).
    3. Send the message to 30985.

You’ll receive an SMS response with your registration details, including your full name, PSIRA grade, and whether your certificate is active or expired.

    1. Use the PSIRA Mobile App

PSIRA also has a mobile app available for download on the Google Play Store. The app allows you to view your registration details, renewal dates, and certificate status directly from your smartphone.

    To check through the app:

    1. Download and install the PSIRA App.
    2. Open the app and select “Check My Status.”
    3. Enter your PSIRA number or ID number.
    4. Tap “Submit” to view your current status.

The app is convenient for regular updates, especially for security officers who are frequently on duty.

    1. Contact PSIRA for Assistance

If your online check doesn’t go through or shows incorrect information, you can contact PSIRA directly for help.

    • Email: info@psira.co.za
    • Phone: 086 133 3850
    • Website: www.psira.co.za
    • You can also visit a PSIRA regional office for in-person assistance.

Make sure to have your PSIRA number or ID handy when you contact them.
