If you’re a DStv subscriber, you’ve likely encountered error messages on your screen at some point. These messages can interrupt your viewing experience, but the good news is that most DStv errors are easy to fix. Whether it’s due to signal issues, subscription lapses, or decoder problems, there are simple ways to clear these errors from the comfort of your home. Here is how to clear error on DStv.
- Identify the Error Code
Before you can clear the error, note the specific error code showing on your screen. Common ones include:
- E16 – Service is scrambled or not subscribed
- E19 – Smartcard is not paired
- E30/E32 – Decoder not activated or service expired
- E48-32 – No signal (usually a dish or signal issue)
Take note of the code so you can apply the correct fix.
- Check Subscription Status
Log into your DStv account online or through the MyDStv app to make sure your subscription is active and up to date. If your account has been suspended due to non-payment, settle the bill before attempting to clear the error.

This typically works within a few minutes if your account is in good standing.
- Reboot Your Decoder
Sometimes simply rebooting your decoder can help:
- Switch off the decoder and unplug it from the power source
- Wait about 30 seconds
- Plug it back in and switch it on
- Allow it a few minutes to reboot and check if the error clears
- Check Signal and Connections (For E48-32 Errors)
If you’re getting a “No signal” error:
- Ensure your dish hasn’t shifted due to wind or other factors
- Check that the cable is properly connected to the decoder
- Make sure there is no obstruction blocking the dish
If the issue persists, you may need a technician to realign the dish.
