Drawing a crab is a fun way to learn how to combine simple shapes into a lively sea creature. Crabs have a round body, large claws, and thin legs, which makes them interesting to draw while still being easy enough for beginners. By breaking the crab into its basic parts, you can create a neat and balanced drawing without feeling overwhelmed. This guide helps you sketch the body first, then add the claws, legs, and facial features to bring your crab to life. With a few finishing touches, your drawing will look complete and full of character.

    1. Drawing the Main Body

Start by drawing a wide oval or a rounded circle for the crab’s body. Keep the shape slightly flattened at the top and bottom. This body shape forms the centre of the crab and helps you decide where to place the claws and legs.

    1. Adding the Eyes

On the top of the body, draw two small eye stalks. These can be short lines rising up with small circles on top. The eyes should look round and expressive. You can add tiny dots inside the circles to make them more lively.

    1. Creating the Claws

On both sides of the body, draw two large claws. Start by sketching a curved arm shape that extends from the body. At the end of each arm, draw a big pincer shaped like a crescent or two curved lines meeting at a point. The claws should be the biggest features of the crab, giving it a bold look.

    1. Drawing the Legs

Below the claws, draw three legs on each side. Each leg can be made up of two or three straight or slightly curved lines joined together like little sticks. Crabs usually have six walking legs, so make sure your drawing shows all of them evenly spaced.

    1. Adding Facial Features

Inside the main body, add a small curved line to create a simple smile. If you want, you can also add tiny dots or shapes for extra features like cheeks or small patterns. These small touches help your crab look friendly and animated.

    1. Shaping the Shell Details

You can add a few lines or curves on the shell to show texture. These do not need to be perfect; simple marks help your crab look more natural. A line at the top or a few short strokes around the edges are enough to suggest shell details.

    1. Finishing and Colouring

Once your crab’s shape looks balanced, outline the final drawing with darker lines. Erase any rough guidelines. Colour the crab in red, orange, brown, or any creative colour you prefer. Adding shadows under the legs can give your crab a more realistic look.
