How To Draw A School

Drawing a school can be a fun way to practice sketching buildings and improve your observation skills. Whether you’re creating a picture for a class project or simply exploring your creativity, a school drawing often includes simple shapes such as rectangles, triangles, and squares. Here is how to draw a school.

Step 1: Draw the Main Building Structure

Start by sketching a large rectangle in the center of your paper. This will be the front wall of the school. Make sure it’s wide enough to add windows and a door later. If you’d like to make a more complex building, you can add rectangles on either side for extra wings.

Step 2: Add the Roof

Draw a triangle on top of the main rectangle to form the roof. If you’re drawing a flat-roofed school, simply add a narrow horizontal rectangle instead. For a more detailed roof, you can also add a chimney or a bell tower.

Step 3: Draw the Door

In the middle of the front wall, sketch a large rectangle for the main entrance door. You can divide the door in half vertically to show double doors and add small circles for handles. Above the door, you can draw a horizontal sign and write “SCHOOL” to make the building easily recognizable.

Step 4: Add Windows

Draw square or rectangular windows on either side of the door and across the building. Try to make them even in size and spacing. For each window, add a cross inside to show the window panes. You can draw curtains or smiling students inside the windows to make it more lively.

Step 5: Draw Steps and Pathway

Below the door, add two or three horizontal lines to create front steps. Extend a curved or straight line outward from the steps to draw a pathway leading from the school entrance.

Step 6: Add Trees or a Flag

To decorate your scene, you can draw one or two trees beside the school. Start with tall trunks and round or fluffy tops for the leaves. You can also add a flagpole in front of the school with a waving flag on top.

Step 7: Outline and Color

Use a black pen or marker to outline your drawing. Erase any extra pencil marks. Once your lines are clean, color the building in red, brown, or yellow. Use blue or grey for windows, green for trees, and any bright color for the flag.
