The newly appointed Selection Panel for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has officially invited applications for the positions of IEBC chairperson and six commissioners.

In a notice issued on Saturday, February 1, the panel announced that Kenyans interested in the positions must submit their applications by Saturday, February 15.

“The selection panel for the recruitment of nominees for appointment as the Chairperson and Commissioners of the IEBC invites applications from qualified persons who satisfy the provisions of the Constitution and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Act,” the notice reads.

Panel chairperson Dr. Nelson Makanda outlined the qualifications required for applicants. Those applying for the IEBC chairperson position must have at least 15 years of experience as a judge of the superior courts, or as a distinguished academic, judicial officer, legal practitioner, or expert in a related field. They must also meet the leadership and integrity standards outlined in Chapter Six of the Constitution.

However, individuals who have held political office in the past five years—such as Members of Parliament (MPs), Members of County Assembly (MCAs), or officials of a political party—are ineligible to apply.

Applicants for the commissioner positions must hold a degree from a recognized university and have at least 10 years of experience in electoral matters, law, governance, finance, ICT, public administration, or related fields. They must also meet the integrity requirements in Chapter Six of the Constitution.

All applications must be submitted with academic certificates, a curriculum vitae (CV), a national ID or passport, and clearance certificates from KRA, HELB, the DCI, EACC, and a Credit Reference Bureau.

Applications can be delivered in person to the Selection Panel’s office on the 3rd Floor of County House Building, Parliament Road, or sent via email as a PDF attachment to iebcselectionpanel2025@parliament.go.ke.

The names of all applicants and the interview schedule for shortlisted candidates will be published in newspapers, the Kenya Gazette, and the Parliamentary Service Commission website.
