The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has released new Gazette Notices outlining final preparations for the by-elections set to take place on November 27, 2025.
In a statement issued on Friday, October 31, the Commission confirmed that the notices contain important information including the official list of nominated candidates, polling stations, tallying centres, and areas where there will be no contest.
According to the IEBC, two wards — Mitkei and Tembelio — will not hold competitive elections. The Commission has declared the seats uncontested, meaning the nominated candidates in those areas will automatically take office without voters going to the ballot.
The campaign period for the by-elections began on October 8 and will end on November 24. Candidates are required to stop all campaigns 48 hours before voting day.
During this period, all political parties and independent candidates are expected to follow the Electoral Code of Conduct to ensure peaceful campaigns.
“The Commission has officially published the requisite Gazette Notices in preparation for the upcoming by-elections scheduled for November 27, 2025,” IEBC said.
“These notices provide crucial details on the list of nominated candidates, the declaration of no contest for Mitkei and Tembelio Wards, designated polling stations, and the specific tallying centres.”
IEBC also reminded candidates that any acts of intimidation, bribery, violence or misconduct during the campaigns will lead to legal consequences.
The November mini-polls are expected to attract national attention as political parties test their popularity at the grassroots level ahead of the 2027 General Election.
