    Early Life

Born Felipe Andres Coronel on February 19, 1978, in Lima, Peru, Immortal Technique came from a diverse heritage that includes Amerindian, Spanish, African, and French roots. His family immigrated to New York City in 1980 to escape the Peruvian Civil War, settling in Harlem. Growing up in a challenging environment, he frequently clashed with the law and was arrested multiple times as a teenager.

He attended Hunter College High School in Manhattan before enrolling at Pennsylvania State University, where he was incarcerated for assault-related offenses. After serving a year in prison and earning parole, he pursued studies at Baruch College, but his true calling remained music. While in jail, he honed his rap skills, later selling CDs on the streets and joining underground freestyle rap battles, where he developed the stage name Immortal Technique.

    Musical Career and Albums

Immortal Technique’s music career began independently, using prize money from freestyle competitions to fund his projects. In 2001, he released his debut album, Revolutionary Vol. 1, which included the dark and widely recognized track “Dance with the Devil.”

In 2003, he followed with Revolutionary Vol. 2, featuring spoken-word contributions from death row inmate Mumia Abu-Jamal and collaborations with artists like Akir and Diabolic. The album was notable for its sharp critiques of the Bush administration and U.S. foreign policy.

His third studio album, The 3rd World (2008), featured artists such as Chino XL, Ras Kass, and Veneno, marking his first charting project. In 2011, he released The Martyr, a free compilation album with previously unreleased songs, further strengthening his reputation as an underground powerhouse.

    Collaborations and International Reach

Immortal Technique has worked with a wide range of socially conscious artists. In 2005, he joined forces with Mos Def and DJ Green Lantern on the track “Bin Laden.” A year later, he collaborated with Dead Prez and Saigon on “Impeach the President.”

His international presence grew in 2009 with a collaboration with French-Brazilian rapper Rockin’ Squat on “Democratie Fasciste (Article 4),” marking his first cross-border project. Later, he worked with British activist-rapper Lowkey on “Voices of the Voiceless,” a song addressing issues like racism, famine, and colonialism.

    Film Appearances

Beyond music, Immortal Technique has appeared in films. In 2005, he featured in Stephen Marshall’s political movie This Revolution, partially filmed during the 2004 Republican National Convention. His life and activism were further documented in the 2011 documentary The (R)evolution of Immortal Technique, which premiered at the Harlem Film Festival.

    Activism and Charity Work

A defining aspect of Immortal Technique’s career is his activism. He frequently speaks to incarcerated youth and raises funds for hospitals and social causes worldwide. Notably, profits from The 3rd World in 2008 helped finance the construction of an orphanage in Kabul, Afghanistan, in partnership with Omeid International.

His advocacy extends to immigrant rights and social justice, making him a figure who bridges music and activism. His willingness to reinvest his earnings into charitable projects shows that his impact goes beyond financial success.

    Immortal Technique Net Worth

With an estimated net worth of $2.5 million, Immortal Technique remains one of the most influential underground rappers of his generation. Unlike many mainstream artists, his earnings stem from independent music sales, live shows, collaborations, and socially driven projects rather than commercial endorsements.
