Intel General Manager for East Africa Danie Steyn explains the Ultrabook during the launch on Wednesday at Mercury Lounge

Intel launched an array of what is now commonly termed the world’s lightest and thinnest laptops otherwise known as the Ultrabooks, in the Kenyan.

Ultrabooks are cool machines for long and extreme use. The great positives about them is that their battery lifetime with constant use stretches beyond the normal, they are portable and they can withstand use beyond 12 hours non-stop. Major drawbacks of the Ultrabooks is the price and also the fact that the light weight means that such additives like DVD–RW and more USB ports are discarded.

Intel hopes to use the great positives associated to the Ultrabooks to cement a footprint in the sleek and versatile laptop world. Luckily in Kenya, the available devices will now retail at between KSh60, 000 – KSh90, 000. There are now around 6 models of the new ultra-thin laptop segment locally. They are set to replace the big conventional laptops currently in use.

Remarking on the Ultrabooks at the launch at Mercury Lounge last week, Danie Steyn, Intel East Africa General Manager said

“Ultrabook devices represent the next step in the evolution of the PC. There is a hunger for a device that can act like a tablet, but that allows for a full computing experience – this is exactly what Ultrabook devices deliver.

It marks a new era in computing. Intel’s vision for the Ultrabook is to deliver a complete, satisfying and secure computing experience in one device. “Users want a device that is instantly responsive and turns on immediately. They don’t want to wait for the device; they want it ready for them whenever they need it”.

The Ultrabook is a very portable device, with full functionality, a full keyboard to access all your personal content and enables the user to be productive yet on the move. More Ultra book designs are in the pipeline this year and will come in a variety of screen sizes, shapes and styles.

    Some features of Intel Ultrabooks

Intel® Rapid Start Technology – This new ultra-responsive capability gives your device the power to resume in a flash when you’re ready, and ultra-low power consumption allowing some models to have up to 8 or 9 hours of battery life.

Intel Smart Connect technology – your email, favorite apps, and social networks are continually and automatically updated even when the system is asleep.

Ultrabooks will also allow you to lock down your lost laptop with Intel® Anti-Theft Technology and give you peace of mind against identity theft when you are online with Intel® Identity Protection Technology.
