The terror threat could be deep-rooted in government leaders of certain countries, after it emerged that the Iranian Ambassador to Kenya Hadi Farajvand was caught trying to free two terror suspects.

The ambassador was trying to set free Iranian nationals Ahmad Abolfathi Mohammed and Sayed Mansour Mousavi, and is said to have already  parted with undisclosed amount of money (bribe).

The ambassador is said to have been working with two people who introduced themselves as senior government officials from the ministry of interior security, and could secure the freedom of the two Iranian officers.

The two imposters, Mr Wesley Kiptanui Kipkemoi and Mr Shemgrant Agyei, have already been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI). They will be arraigned in court on Monday.

The Iranian terror suspects are also in the police custody awaiting a decision by the Supreme Court on whether to release them or not.

The relation between the ambassador and the terror suspects is still unclear, after it emerged that he had been looking for senior government officials to illegally secure the freedom of the two.

The two Iranian nationals are suspected members of the Quds Force — an elite unit of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard that carries out covert foreign missions, including terror attacks.

Nation reports that the two claimed they had come to the country as tourists when they were arrested. They were, however, linked to a lethal explosive identified as RDX and were accused of planning a terror attack. A Nairobi court sentenced them to life imprisonment.

The sentence was later reduced to 15-years in jail, after they appealed at the High Court. When they moved to the Court of Appeal, three judges quashed the sentence and set them free. But the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) moved to the Supreme Court to challenge their release with the judges allowing the police to hold the suspects until a decision is made on their fate.

The ambassador is said to have had already booked tickets for the suspects but later cancelled them after the plan failed.
