HACO Industries Kenya Managing Director Mary-Ann Musangi has been elected vice chairperson of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) for a two-year term.

Musangi, who currently chairs KAM’s Women in Manufacturing Programme, has led initiatives aimed at increasing the participation of women in the manufacturing sector through leadership development, mentorship and skills training.

She will serve as deputy to PG Bison Kenya Managing Director Hitesh Mediratta, who has been elected the association’s new chairperson.

Mediratta succeeds East African Breweries Plc Group Managing Director Jane Karuku, who has completed her term as KAM chairperson and will continue serving on the association’s board as an ex-officio member.

Speaking after his election, Mediratta said KAM will continue advocating for policies that promote the growth and competitiveness of Kenya’s manufacturing sector.

“While global uncertainties continue to shape trade, supply chains and global investment shifts, they also present an opportunity for Kenya and Africa to strengthen regional value chains, increase local value addition and unlock the full potential of manufacturing as a driver of economic growth and industrialisation,” he said.

He added that his priority would be to build on the association’s advocacy efforts by creating a more competitive business environment for local manufacturers.

“My priority will be to build on KAM’s strong legacy of advocacy by creating a level playing field that enhances the competitiveness of Kenyan manufacturers both locally and globally. We shall continue to champion equitable value chains where all manufacturers have an opportunity to compete, grow and thrive,” Mediratta said.

Mediratta has led PG Bison Kenya for more than 20 years and has previously served as KAM vice chairperson, board director and chairperson of the association’s Timber and Furniture Sector.

He has also served as vice chairperson of KAM’s Trade and Tax Board Committee.
