Former Kisii County Senior Administrative Executive Dr Alfred Ndemo would now be taking on Kitutu Chache North MP Japhet Nyakundi in the 2027 parliamentary poll.
The announcement made Thursday scales down the early governorship bid he had earlier vowed to make.
He promises dynamic political leadership in the constituency if elected.
Kitutu Chache North, he said, continues to suffer a crisis of transformative leadership from the past and present leadership.
He said he would be prioritizing on education and infrastructure as he starts to consolidate the Abagetutu vote if elected.
“Yes, it is true i wanted to vie for Governor seat but after broad consultations with my people i would now go for the MP seat,” Ndemo told journalists late Thursday.
The hopeful was the administrative executive at the Simba Arati government before a bitter fall out in November 2024 culminating in a nasty resignation.
He also served as CEM Trade and markets.
At one time, he was also the Kenya National Congress Party (KNC) governorship candidate, Manson Oyongo’s running mate in the last polls. .
He now trades as consultant and university don in Nairobi.
He did not declare the party of choice as he sets off in navigating the bumpy constituency politics.
“I will do so at the right time,” he stated.
Current Kitutu Chache North legislator, Japhet Nyakundi, was elected to Parliament on a UDA ticket in the 2022 General election, thrashing seasoned politicians, among them Jimmy Angwenyi (Jubilee) and Moi era tycoon Geoffrey Asanyo (ODM).
Nyakundi has already helped improve the general infrastructure across the Kitutu Chache North constituency for the three years as MP.
On occasion, though, he has run into hostile mobs who are unhappy with his dalliance with President William Ruto.
Ndemo however said more still needs to be done to grow the economy of the region.
“There is still extensive poverty, a pain in the neck of our people that we must confront. People need electricity and our young people need bursaries to study,” stated Ndemo.
He urged the youth to take up voting cards ahead of the 2027 polls.
