Jana Fernández Velasco is a Spanish professional footballer born on 18 February 2002 in Martorell, in the Baix Llobregat district of the Province of Barcelona.
Known for her technical ability, versatility, leadership qualities and composure on the ball, she rose through the ranks at FC Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy before establishing herself as a first-team player.
Trilingual in Catalan, Spanish and English, Velasco has spoken of how her language skills helped her adapt after moving abroad.
She currently represents London City Lionesses in the Women’s Super League and the Spain national team.
Siblings
Jana has one sibling, a younger brother named Pau Fernández.
Like his sister, Pau is a footballer and has played for CE Sabadell FC in the Spanish lower divisions, including contributing to the club’s promotion to Primera Federación.
Jana has publicly celebrated Pau’s team successes, including posting congratulations when Sabadell achieved promotion.
Career
Fernández joined FC Barcelona’s youth system in 2014 at the age of 12 and progressed steadily through the various age-group teams.
She made her first-team debut for Barcelona on 9 November 2018 at just 16 years and nine months old while still attached to the Juvenil-Cadete side, becoming the club’s second-youngest debutant in the professional era.

She signed her first full senior contract in the summer of 2020.
Over the following seasons she featured regularly in Liga F, the Copa de la Reina and the UEFA Women’s Champions League, contributing to multiple domestic and European successes.
Injuries, including a cruciate ligament tear in her right knee in February 2022, limited her minutes at times, yet she continued to show resilience and returned to meaningful contributions, particularly in the 2024–25 campaign.
In August 2025 she left Barcelona after more than a decade at the club and signed for newly promoted Women’s Super League side London City Lionesses.
She quickly became a regular starter, featuring in the majority of league matches in her first season and scoring her first goals for the club in the FA Cup and the WSL.
At international level she represented Spain at under-17, under-19 and under-20 levels before earning her senior debut.
She was part of the squad that reached the final of UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 in Switzerland.
Accolades
With Barcelona, Fernández collected an impressive array of silverware that included five Primera División titles (2020–21 through 2024–25), multiple Copa de la Reina triumphs and several Supercopa de España Femenina titles.
She was also part of the squads that secured three UEFA Women’s Champions League crowns, contributing to the club’s historic trebles and sustained dominance in European women’s football.
At youth international level she helped Spain win both the 2018 UEFA Women’s Under-17 Championship and the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay, the latter marking Spain’s first World Cup success in any women’s age category.
With the senior Spain team she earned a runners-up medal at UEFA Women’s Euro 2025.
