    Siblings

Jason has at least two siblings, a brother, Ryan Falkner, who is also a musician and has collaborated with Jason on recording projects, including work at Jason’s studio.

Their sister is Elizabeth Falkner, a renowned chef, restaurateur, and television personality known for her appearances on shows like Top Chef.

    Career

Falkner’s professional journey began after high school when he joined The Three O’Clock, a prominent band in the Paisley Underground scene signed to Prince’s Paisley Park label.

He later moved to San Francisco to co-found Jellyfish with Roger Manning, Andy Sturmer, and others.

Jellyfish’s debut album Bellybutton (1990) became a cult classic in power pop circles, showcasing Falkner’s guitar work and songwriting.

After leaving Jellyfish, he formed The Grays with Jon Brion and others, releasing the album Ro Sham Bo in 1994 before the band disbanded due to creative differences.

Falkner then launched his solo career in 1996 with Presents Author Unknown, a critically acclaimed album on which he played nearly all instruments.

He followed it with releases like Can You Still Feel? (1999) and others, including the instrumental Bedtime with the Beatles albums.

He has released around six solo albums total.

As a session musician and producer, Falkner has contributed to recordings by Beck (including The Information and Modern Guilt, and long-term touring guitar duties), Air (as touring bassist), Susanna Hoffs, Aimee Mann, Brendan Benson, Eric Matthews, St. Vincent, and many more.

He has also worked with Paul McCartney and stepped in for projects with the Foo Fighters.

His home studio work emphasizes DIY craftsmanship alongside high-level production.

    Accolades

While Falkner has not amassed mainstream commercial awards, his work garners consistent critical praise within power pop, indie rock, and musician circles for its craftsmanship and innovation.

Jellyfish’s Bellybutton remains a benchmark album in the genre, influencing later artists.

His solo albums, particularly the early ones produced with figures like Nigel Godrich, earned acclaim for their intricate arrangements and songwriting depth.

Falkner has received endorsements from legends like Paul McCartney for his Bedtime with the Beatles projects.

Peers and publications such as Tape Op highlight his production skills and versatility.
