    Early Life

Jeffrey Marshall Foxworthy was born on September 6, 1958, in Atlanta, to Carol and Jimmy Foxworthy. His father worked as an IBM executive, and Foxworthy grew up in a middle-class household.

He attended Hapeville High School before enrolling at the Georgia Institute of Technology, though he left just short of graduating. Afterward, he worked for IBM in computer maintenance alongside his father for several years.

While working at IBM, Foxworthy frequently entertained coworkers with jokes. Encouraged by colleagues, he entered the 1984 Great Southeastern Laugh-Off at Atlanta’s Punchline comedy club—and won the competition. That victory launched his full-time career in comedy.

    Breakthrough in Stand-Up Comedy

Foxworthy’s major breakthrough came in 1993 with his hit comedy album You Might Be a Redneck If…, which became a cultural phenomenon. The album topped comedy charts and established his signature comedic style centered on Southern humor and everyday life observations.

He went on to release multiple successful comedy albums, becoming one of the best-selling stand-up comedians of all time. His follow-up album Games Rednecks Play also earned a Grammy nomination.

    Television Success

In 1995, Foxworthy starred in his own sitcom, The Jeff Foxworthy Show. Although the show was short-lived on ABC, it later aired on NBC for a second season and continued in reruns on cable networks.

During the late 1990s and early 2000s, Foxworthy expanded his television presence through stand-up specials and comedy programming, further increasing his national popularity.

Blue Collar Comedy Tour and Massive Fame

Foxworthy reached peak mainstream success in the early 2000s as a founding member of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour.

Alongside Larry the Cable Guy, Bill Engvall, and Ron White, Foxworthy helped create one of the most successful comedy tours in history. Originally planned for just a few shows, the tour expanded into a multi-year nationwide phenomenon due to overwhelming demand.

The success of the tour also led to spin-off television projects, including Blue Collar TV, which Foxworthy executive produced and starred in.

    Hosting Career

Foxworthy became a familiar face on television through several hosting roles. He is best known for hosting the hit quiz show Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?, which became a major ratings success and later expanded internationally.

He also hosted The American Bible Challenge and The American Baking Competition, showcasing his versatility beyond stand-up comedy.

In addition, Foxworthy appeared as a judge on NBC’s comedy competition series Bring the Funny and later returned to stand-up with Netflix’s Jeff Foxworthy: The Good Old Days in 2022.

    Writing

Beyond comedy and television, Foxworthy is a successful author. His books include:

    • You Might Be a Redneck If…
    • No Shirt, No Shoes, No Problem!
    • The Redneck Grill
    • Jeff Foxworthy’s Redneck Dictionary series
    • Several children’s books

His publishing career has contributed significantly to his brand, extending his comedic identity into print media.

    Personal Life

Foxworthy married Pamela Gregg in 1985 after meeting her at Atlanta’s Punchline comedy club. The couple has two daughters, Jordan and Julianne.

He has often credited his upbringing and family life as inspiration for his humor. Foxworthy has also shared personal stories over the years, including his rural childhood experiences and family-influenced comedic style.

    Real Estate

Foxworthy has owned property in the Atlanta metropolitan area. One of his most notable homes, located in Alpharetta, Georgia, was listed for approximately $2.99 million in 2021 after being purchased for under $2 million years earlier.
