A section of Mombasa politicians have told Governor Ali Hassan Joho to work with the Jubilee government, if he still wants to be relevant come 2022.

Former MPs Ramadhan Kajembe, Suleiman Shakombo and Mohamed Jahazi while speaking at Tononoka grounds during the Jamhuri day celebrations asked the ‘Sultan’ to ‘swallow his pride’ as his political future hang in the balance.

They also urged Joho to drop the secession talk saying that he was using it to blindside the people. Former Likoni MP, Shikombo said that he (Joho) had failed to deliver his promises to the people hence the self determination rhetoric.

“We don’t support any secession rhetoric, these are sentiments of a person who has failed to deliver in his first term,” said Shakombo.

President Uhuru Kenyatta during the celebrations held at Kasarani, noted that there would be no secession and those in the opposition should instead help in building the nation.

”… I wish to reiterate the point I made earlier. There will be a 5th, 6thand even 10thPresident of Kenya but there will not be a second, third or fourth Kenya. Leaders come and go; but Kenya remains,” he said.

Kajembe chided the area leaders for giving a wide berth the celebrations. He accused them of blindly following NASA leader, Raila Odinga.

“Our leaders are leading us to the wrong direction. There is nothing to celebrate while in the Opposition. It is time we should think on the right direction. There is no future for us as Mombasa residents if our leaders continue to keep us in the Opposition,” he said.

Sharing his sentiments was chairman of the Mombasa Council of Elders, Jahazi who said: ”Our leaders have lost track, there is no other President apart from Uhuru Kenyatta and snubbing the celebrations is a show of lack of patriotism.”

County Commissioner, Evans Achoki said that the leaders should have just like other residents showed up for the celebrations as a show of patriotism.
