The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has nominated 15 judges for appointment to the Court of Appeal.

In a statement issued on Thursday, January 22, 2026, JSC Chairperson Chief Justice Martha Koome said the commission had concluded the recruitment and selection process and is now forwarding the names of the nominees to President William Ruto for appointment.

The nominations are being made in line with Article 166(1)(b) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.

    The nominees are:

    • Lady Justice Hedwig Imbosa Ong’udi
    • Justice Mathews Nduma Nderi
    • Mr. Brown Murungi Kairaria
    • Lady Justice Linnet Mumo Ndolo
    • Mr. Ahmed Issack Hassan
    • Justice Enock Chacha Mwita
    • Mr. Paul Lilan
    • Lady Justice Lucy Mwihaki Njuguna
    • Justice Munyao Sila
    • Justice Samson Odhiambo Okongo
    • Mr. Johnson Okoth Okello
    • Lady Justice Rachel Chepkoech Ngetich
    • Mr. Joseph Kipchumba Kigen Katwa
    • Justice Byram Ongaya

If appointed, the new judges will raise the number of Court of Appeal judges from 27 to 42, a move expected to help reduce the backlog of cases and improve access to justice through faster hearing and determination of appeals.

“The Commission congratulates the nominees and thanks all candidates who participated in the process for their interest in serving the Judiciary and the nation,” Chief Justice Koome said.

The JSC also thanked members of the public and institutions that submitted memoranda and took part in the recruitment process, saying their participation was valuable.
