The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned of possible flooding in Nairobi and other parts of the country as heavy rainfall continues this week.
In a statement issued on Monday, April 27, 2026, Kenya Met said rainfall is expected to persist across several regions, including the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, Nairobi, the Rift Valley, the Coast and Northeastern Kenya.
The department cautioned that some areas within these regions are likely to experience heavy rainfall events, increasing the risk of flooding and related hazards.
Among the potential impacts highlighted are flash floods, reduced visibility, rising river levels — including in areas not directly receiving heavy rains — and an increased risk of landslides in hilly مناطق such as the Aberdare Range and Mount Kenya regions.
Motorists have been advised to avoid driving through flooded roads or moving water, while pedestrians are urged not to walk through fast-flowing water.
Residents have also been warned against sheltering under trees or near grilled windows during storms, and to exercise caution in landslide-prone and low-lying areas.
At the same time, Kenya Met said daytime temperatures exceeding 30°C are expected in the Coast, Southeastern lowlands, and parts of Northeastern and Northwestern Kenya.
Night-time temperatures, however, are projected to drop below 10°C in parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the Central Rift Valley and areas near Mount Kilimanjaro.
The advisory comes as Nairobi experienced rainfall on Monday evening, with authorities urging the public to remain vigilant amid the ongoing wet conditions.
