    Kenya Orient

Smartphone owners have the opportunity to insure their valuable gizmos with Kenya Orient. At a press even t in Nairobi, the company revealed that it is now insuring mobile handsets against damage, theft or loss in a stand alone cover deal.

The annual premiums for the smartphones start at Ksh 999 and the new cover has been unbundled from the domestic insurance cover which is common in the market. The domestic cover forced anyone who wanted to insure his products to insure all the gizmos in his household including TV, Fridge, Computers and other electronics.

Insuring a smartphone is easy with potential clients only required to send the word MOBILE to 70707 after which they will get links to complete the sign up. Only less than 2 years old smartphones will be eligible for insurance under this scheme.

Clients can register multiple phones using the same ID or passport number, but SMS must be sent from the phone which is being insured. The insurance company claim that it has a way of determining the value of smartphone. The company also say that the premium will depreciate with the depreciating value of the smartphone.
