Kenya Railways has announced extra Madaraka Express trains to meet the rising demand from passengers during this period.

In a notice issued on Thursday, the Kenya Railways Managing Director said the additional trains will operate on Friday, November 14, 2025, and Saturday, November 15, 2025.

On November 14, the train will depart from Mombasa at 09:45 am, reach Voi at 11:21 am, leave Voi at 11:26 am, and arrive in Nairobi at 3:48 pm. On November 15, the train will leave Nairobi at 09:45 am, arrive at Voi at 1:35 pm, depart Voi at 1:40 pm, and reach Mombasa at 3:36 pm.

The Madaraka Express provides a fast connection between Mombasa and Suswa, stopping at key stations including Mombasa Terminus, Mariakani, Miasenyi, Voi, Mtito Andei, Kibwezi, Emali, Athi River, Nairobi Terminus, Ongata Rongai, Ngong, Maai Mahiu, and Suswa.

Passengers can book tickets online at https://metickets.krc.co.ke, via the USSD code *639# on Safaricom, or directly at any Madaraka Express station. Tickets can be purchased up to 60 days in advance, with up to 10 passengers allowed per transaction.

Travelers are advised to arrive at least one hour before departure. Boarding closes 11 minutes before the train leaves, and platform gates close 10 minutes prior. Passengers must present valid original identification when buying tickets and boarding.

Children under three travel free, while those aged three to 11 pay half the fare. Children over 11 years pay the full fare. For families with multiple children, only one child qualifies for the half-price fare.

Cancellations must be made at least 48 hours before departure and incur a 30% fee. Rescheduling is allowed once if done 48 hours in advance, subject to seat availability, with a 10% fee. Lost tickets can be reissued after verification for a 30% fee.
