Kenyan Cop Sacked and Arrested for Inciting Colleagues Through Social Media

A Kenyan police constable based in Kimilili has been sacked and arrested for allegedly inciting his colleagues to go on strike through the social media.

Police Constable Philip Omondi will be arraigned in court on Friday morning according to the Acting Internal Security Permanent Secretary Mutea Iringo said.

The Kenyan police is barred by law from protesting and “any person who advisedly attempts to incite members of the disciplined forces from his duty and incite such persons to make a mutinous assembly is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for life.”

While the PS was denying that there is a go-slow within the police ranks, the chairman of the National Police Service Commission Johnstone Kavuludi who was present at the briefing however conceded that the police are, “unhappy about the terms and conditions of their service.”

According to PS Iringo, the dismissed officer was using the name Bradley Philip Charles Konjung’a on Facebook while inciting his fellow officers to go-slow.

Kenyan police are a poorly paid lot with salaries starting as low as Ksh 15,000 before taxes. AFter taxes, most policemen earn below Ksh 10,000. Recently the Internal Security Minister Katoo ole Metito announced the release of Sh3.7 billion following reports of police going on a go-slow.

The police officers have rejected this offer terming it too little too late.
