Kenyan referees Josephine Wanjiku and Elizabeth Njoroge have been selected to officiate at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), marking a significant milestone for Kenyan football officiating on the continental stage.
In a statement, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) confirmed that the duo will attend the Second WAFCON Preparatory Course scheduled for June 25–30, 2026, in Cairo, Egypt, as part of their preparation for the tournament.
“Congratulations to the duo on this well-deserved appointment,” FKF said in its statement.

The 2026 WAFCON will be the 16th edition of the biennial continental women’s football championship organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), featuring national teams from across Africa.
The tournament will be hosted in Morocco for the third consecutive edition, making it the first country to achieve this milestone. Matches will be staged across Casablanca, Fez, and Rabat.
Originally planned as a 12-team competition, CAF expanded the tournament to 16 teams following the conclusion of the qualification process, which ran from February to October 2025. Hosts Morocco qualified automatically, while Cape Verde and Malawi will make their debut appearances.
Beyond continental glory, the tournament will also serve as the African qualification pathway for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. The top four teams will secure direct qualification, while two additional teams will advance to inter-confederation playoffs.
Nigeria enter the competition as defending champions after defeating Morocco 3–2 in the 2024 final held in Rabat.
