Kenyan cooperative leader Macloud Malonza has been elected President of the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA) Africa, marking a significant milestone for Kenya’s cooperative movement on the continental stage.

Malonza, who previously served as ICA Africa Vice President, was elevated to the top leadership position following elections held by the regional cooperative body.

Congratulating him on the achievement, Principal Secretary for the State Department for Cooperatives Patrick Kilemi described the election as a recognition of Malonza’s distinguished leadership and long-standing contribution to the cooperative sector.

“This well-deserved achievement reflects your distinguished leadership and many years of dedicated service to the cooperative movement,” Kilemi said.

He noted that the election demonstrates the confidence cooperative leaders across Africa have in Malonza’s ability to steer the continental cooperative agenda at a time when cooperatives are increasingly playing a key role in driving economic transformation and social inclusion.

According to Kilemi, Malonza’s election is a proud moment for Kenya and further cements the country’s position as a leader in the regional and global cooperative movement.

“I wish you every success as you take up this important responsibility and look forward to your contribution in advancing a stronger, more resilient and more inclusive cooperative movement across Africa,” he added.

Malonza is one of Kenya’s most experienced cooperative leaders and currently serves as Group Chairman of the Cooperative Bank of Kenya. He is also Chairman of the Cooperative Alliance of Kenya and Harambee DT Sacco.

In addition, he serves as a Director at Kingdom Bank, Cooperative Insurance Company (CIC) and Management Consultancy Services under the State Department for Public Service and Human Capital Development.

A veteran of the cooperative sector, Malonza has played a key role in the growth and development of cooperative institutions in Kenya over the years.

He holds extensive academic and professional qualifications, including a Bachelor of Arts degree, a Master’s degree in Organizational Change and Development, a Master of Business Administration (MBA), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management and Information Systems.

His professional credentials also include training in Strategic Leadership and Development, certification as a SACCO Director, membership in the Institute of Directors (Kenya), and membership in the Kenya Institute of Management.
