A caucus of young professionals from Kisii County has urged lawyer and public servant Charles Nyachae to consider running for the county’s top seat in the 2027 general election.
The group says it is seeking what it describes as renewed leadership capable of accelerating development and restoring confidence in governance in Kisii County.
Through its chairperson Kevin Mamboleo, the caucus said it has been closely monitoring leadership and governance trends in the county and believes a leadership gap has emerged that requires credible and visionary direction.
“If he heeds the call to contest, Nyachae would join a race that has already attracted several aspirants, including Dr. Enock Ondari, the former chief executive of Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, and Ezekiel Machogu, a former Cabinet Secretary for Education,” the group said.
The seat is currently held by Simba Arati, who was elected governor in the 2022 general election.
Call for “renewed leadership”
Mamboleo said members of the caucus — drawn from professionals working across various sectors both in Kenya and abroad — had engaged in consultations within the community before making the appeal.
“After consultations within the community, we have concluded that Kisii requires renewed leadership grounded in integrity, professionalism and long-term development planning,” he said.
He argued that some of the leaders already positioning themselves for the gubernatorial contest have not yet presented a convincing vision capable of restoring hope, confidence and progressive development for residents.
“Many of the aspirants have track records that do not sufficiently inspire public confidence in their ability to transform the county,” he added.
“The caucus has extensively deliberated and evaluated credible leaders and thus formally appeals to Nyachae to offer himself for leadership as the next Governor of Kisii.”
Nyachae’s public service record
Nyachae is a respected lawyer and public servant and the son of the late regional political heavyweight Simeon Nyachae.
He previously served as chairperson of the Commission for the Implementation of the Constitution, where he oversaw key processes following the promulgation of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
The caucus said his tenure at the commission demonstrated commitment to constitutionalism, institutional reform and accountable governance.
Nyachae currently serves as chairman of the Kenya School of Government, where he is involved in strengthening professionalism and capacity within the public service.
He also previously served as a judge at the East African Court of Justice, a role the group says further cemented his reputation as a principled leader with deep knowledge of law, governance and regional integration.
“We are convinced that Charles Nyachae possesses the leadership qualities required to reorganize county governance, restore institutional integrity and steer Kisii County toward sustainable economic growth and improved service delivery,” Mamboleo said.
Youth pledge support
The professionals’ caucus has pledged to mobilize young people, professionals and the wider community to support Nyachae should he heed the call to run.
They noted that Kisii County has significant human capital, entrepreneurial potential and cultural pride but requires coordinated leadership to harness these strengths for economic and social progress.
“With the right leadership, our county can reclaim its rightful place as one of the most progressive and economically vibrant counties in Kenya,” Mamboleo said.
