    Kisumu International Airport Closes Runway For 10 Days As Repairs Begin

    Kisumu International Airport run way will remain closed for the next 10 days, starting Monday, March 18, for scheduled maintenance.

    The maintenance, which is aimed at improving the airport’s infrastructure, is set to end on March 28.

    Following the flight disruptions, Kenya Airways has announced major changes on its flight operations.

    In a statement, KQ said passengers booked for Tuesday 19, have been rebooked on the same flight numbers to travel the following day, 20th March 2019 when the airport resumes operations.

    The airline further stated that during the 10-day period, it won’t operate its Embraer E -190 due to the shortened runway.

    However, the airline directed that all Kenya Airways flights to Kisumu will be operated by Jambojet’s Q400 aircraft between 20th and 27th March 2019.

    KQ urged passengers with queries to channel them through the airlines call centre number (+254 20 327 4747).

    “We advise all guests planning to travel through Kisumu International Airport between 18th and 28thMarch 2019 to contact the airline through our 24hrs Contact Center: +254 20 327 4747 for further information,” KQ stated.

    In a statement on Friday, Kenya Airports Authority had announced that during the 10-day period, the runway will be available for flight operations from 06:45am to 07:00pm. After which it will be closed for the scheduled works.

    The authority further stated that the runway will be closed all day on Tuesday, March 19 to allow needed preparation for scheduled daytime flights during the maintenance period.

    “The runway will however remain closed all day on 19th March 2019. This is to allow for major preliminary works that will enable daytime flight operations on the subsequent days,” the statement read in part.

    The authority advised all passengers planning to travel or booked for March 18, to make arrangements with their respective airlines following the disruptions.

    “Any passengers planning to travel through Kisumu International Airport between 18th to 28th March 2019, are urged to contact their respective airlines for further information,” KAA stated.
