Twenty seven youths from Kisumu have been arrested with pangas on their way to Rabuor where Nyando MP Fred Outa is launching campaigns for his Kisumu senatorial bid.
Nyando OCPD Mohamed Amin said members of the public informed them that youths had been seen in a pick-up with crude weapons.
Amin said the youths hailed from Muhoroni.
“We intercepted before they could reach the venue,” he said.
He also said ‘it is unfortunate that they are letting politicians misuse them.’
The OCPD said the group was caught with three pangas, three knives and two sticks of bhang. Some of whom were drunk.
The youths were taken to Ahero police station ahead of their court appearance.
Amin said police are on high alert and will immediately deal with anyone who disrupts the meeting.
On June 10, Outa’s car was shot at when chaos erupted at the burial of former MP James Miruka Owuor.
The incident occurred after a group of youths believed to be supporters of a Kisumu MCA stormed the service. They accused Outa and senator Anyang Nyong’o of being behind the bungled ODM nominations.
