The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) has introduced a fully digital system for registering health facilities, marking a major step in modernizing healthcare regulation in the country.

In a public notice issued on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, KMPDC CEO David Kariuki said the move is part of the Council’s broader plan to improve efficiency, promote transparency, and enhance service delivery in line with the government’s digital transformation agenda.

“The shift from a paper-based process to a secure, user-friendly digital platform is part of KMPDC’s long-term strategy to harness technology,” Kariuki stated.

The new online system allows applicants to submit key details about their facility, including its name, location, type, services offered, personnel, and management. They are also required to upload certified documents to show compliance with relevant healthcare laws.

Kariuki said the digital platform ensures data accuracy, enables real-time tracking, and makes it easier to retrieve or update records. The system is available 24/7 and features automated alerts and approval processes to speed up internal workflows.

Registration will only be approved after thorough verification of all submitted information. Any inconsistencies will lead to automatic rejection, making it crucial for applicants to provide honest and accurate data. Once a facility has been inspected by KMPDC officers, the application will be processed within 21 working days.

The system also complies fully with the Data Protection Act, 2019. It secures all sensitive information through encrypted submissions, access controls, and automated logs to protect applicants’ data.

Applicants will receive timely email updates at each stage of the registration process to ensure a smooth and transparent experience. Kariuki emphasized that the new digital platform is not just a technical upgrade, but a major improvement in how the Council delivers its services.

“By embracing technology, KMPDC is making the registration process more transparent, efficient, and accessible. This digital shift not only simplifies access to registration but also strengthens public trust in Kenya’s healthcare regulatory system,” he said.
