Lang’ata MP Nixon Korir is under fire after he excused ‘ill-equipped’ Nairobi Fire Fighters who showed up to put out the Kijiji inferno.
”The response time was quick but unfortunately the fire fighting engines didn’t have water. We can have the best equipment but without water there is nothing we can do…” Mr Korir told KTN News.
The Sunday night incident has left three people dead and thousands homeless, said National Disaster Management Unit deputy director Pius Masai.
Residents resorted to using sewage water to save what was left of their property.
But what has angered the residents is that barely three months ago, Governor Mike Sonko launched 26 ‘state-of-the-art’ fire trucks at City Hall together with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Reacting to the lack of preparedness by the county government, Kenyans online had this to say:

This is saddening, been watching the Langata Fire Live on @citizentvkenya for the past hour on #SundayLive with @KoinangeJeff and it's sad that there are no fire fighters on ground battling the fire! This is disgustingly painful!! Someone is failing us somewhere!! #LangataFire

#Langatafire further evidence that there is no substitute for leadership. Nairobians voted on hype without examining ability of the individuals to actually work.

Residents saying the water trucks used on demonstrators should be sent to extinguish the #Langatafire. This speaks volumes about government priorities and a people’s desperation at such a time.

Nixon Korir MP Lang’ata says because of bureaucracy Barracks and Wilson could not respond to #Langatafire emergency. It’ll take two days. Also, the trucks that came had no water. Why have fire trucks with no water? We have normalised mediocrity in this country…🙄

Well, look at the leadership of Nairobi! Would you expect any bright ideas from that lot? Do you remember "the rain comes from the sky" brigade? They are back with a bang!

We had 20 water cannons to bathe Raila's supporters yet we can't have 1 jerrycan of water to put off #Langatafire . 😈😈😈😈 😈😈 marteng.

We treat the poor in this country with contempt. A moth's life is more valuable than the life of a poor person. I'm a very emotional man this morning. I'm angry, sad, disgusted, and I honestly feel like crying. It's not right how we treat the poor in this country. #Langatafire

Dear Nixon Korir response time includes fire fighting engines having water to put out fires. 🙄🙄 fire fighters getting to the scene without water is incompetence and u shd be fighting for your constituents not excusing mediocrity. 🙄🤦🏽♀️
