The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has announced that there will be no free entry to Lake Nakuru National Park on Saturday, September 27, 2025, despite an earlier government declaration of free access to all KWS-managed parks, reserves, and sanctuaries.

The day coincides with United Nations World Tourism Day, marked annually on September 27. This year’s theme is “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.”

Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano had earlier said Kenyans would be allowed free entry to KWS facilities to celebrate the special day and promote appreciation of the country’s natural heritage.

“To honor this significant occasion, I am thrilled to announce that the Government of Kenya is offering free entry to all Kenyan citizens to visit Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS)-managed national parks, reserves, and sanctuaries on Saturday, September 27, 2025,” Miano said.

She added that the initiative is meant to help Kenyans reconnect with wildlife, commit to conservation, and enjoy the country’s beauty.

“However, customers with prepaid eCitizen tickets are advised to access Lake Nakuru National Park through Nderit Gate from 6 amp to 6pm tomorrow Saturday, September 27, 2025,” KWS said.

The Main Gate and Lanet Gate will remain closed.
