La Fouine, whose real name is Laouni Mouhid, is a prominent French rapper, singer, songwriter, producer, actor, and entrepreneur of Moroccan descent.
Born on December 25, 1981, in Trappes in the Yvelines department near Paris, he rose to become one of the influential figures in French hip-hop during the 2000s and 2010s.
Known by aliases such as Fouiny Baby or simply Fouiny, La Fouine blends street rap with melodic elements and has built a career that extends beyond music into business ventures like his record label Banlieue Sale and clothing line Street Swagg.
Siblings
La Fouine was born into a large family of seven children to Moroccan parents originally from Casablanca.
He is the penultimate child, meaning he has one younger sibling.
His siblings include Hakim, better known as the rapper Canardo, with whom La Fouine has collaborated extensively; Kamel; Illham; Samira; Naima; and Adil.
The family grew up together in the Jean Macé square in Trappes, where music played a significant role in their household.
La Fouine and his brother Hakim developed a close bond through rap, with Canardo producing beats and appearing on tracks together.

Career
At a young age, La Fouine studied at a music conservatory, learning singing, solfège, piano, saxophone, drums, and guitar while listening to a wide range of artists from Jacques Brel to NTM.
He left school at around 14 or 15 to focus on rap.
His breakthrough came in 2001 with the track “J’avance,” followed by mixtapes like Planète Trappes.
He signed with Sony after winning a contest organized by Skyrock radio and released his debut album Bourré au Son in 2005, which featured the hit “L’Unité.”
Subsequent albums such as Aller-Retour (2007), Mes Repères (2009), and the Capitale du Crime series solidified his status, with projects often highlighting other artists from the Yvelines region.
He founded Banlieue Sale, collaborated with international names like DJ Khaled and Corneille, and ventured into acting.
Even in recent years, La Fouine has remained active, releasing new material including tracks and visuals in 2025 and 2026, while maintaining a strong presence on social media.
Accolades
La Fouine was voted Best French Artist at the 2011 MTV Europe Music Awards and Best Male Artist at the 2013 Trace Urban Music Awards.
His albums have achieved gold and platinum certifications in France, with strong chart performances, such as Mes Repères ranking high in sales.
La Fouine has also been recognized for his influence, once holding the title of the most-followed French rapper on social media platforms around 2015.
