linda ochielA former National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) commissioner, Linda Ochiel has been accused of terrorizing her village-mates at Mirando, Rarieda constituency.

Ms Ochiel, a source intimates has had people arrested and has issued verbal threats. The former commissioner who now works with FORD Foundation was apparently involved in gun drama in 2017 against a Mr Joe Ajanja.

Her bodyguards, the source says, nearly shot dead Mr Ajanja at a polling station on 8 August, 2017. It took witnesses to plead for his life. Shots were allegedly fired in the air, forcing the voters to scamper for safety at the Mirando polling station, Rarieda.

Mr Ajanja’s only ‘sin,’ Kahawa Tungu has learnt was not having stood up to greet her when she came to vote.

Ms Ochiel was only an observer, but considered this a gross misconduct.

Sometime last week, the former commissioner had Mr Ajanja arrested, taken to Nairobi and held incommunicado at the Kabete Police Station for two nights.

Reason for the arrest? He was not remorseful  enough for his transgressions, the source continued.

Mr Ajanja was then taken to Aram Police Station, Rarieda.

“All this was for his alleged temerity in recording a statement about the gun incident. She had the cops declare that no gun had actually been shot at the polling station despite there having been thousands of witnesses. The cops are at her beck and call,” the source says.

Mirando residents want the Inspector General, Joseph Boinnet to investigate the conduct of officers at Aram Police Station and Ms Ochiel’s bodyguards who she managed to retain even after resigning from NCIC.

The former commissioner does not shy away from controversy as she was also accused of irregularly acquiring land at Nyabera sub-location from a fisherman, Jack Outa Swaga.

Jack sought to have his parents’ bodies exhumed after Ms Ochiel kicked them out of the 2 acre piece of land.

She denied the allegations saying that she followed all the legal procedures and the people were only out to ‘ruin her name.’
