Former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi has officially resigned from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), just days after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua also quit the ruling party.
In a letter addressed to UDA Secretary-General, Linturi accused the party of abandoning its core principles and failing to live up to its philosophy, mission, values, and objectives.
āThis is a party akin to the Biblical Tower of Babel,ā Linturi said, adding that UDA no longer has the moral authority to be called a political party.
He went on to accuse the party of showing ātotal contemptā for the Kenyan people during its two years in power.
āI do not wish, nor would I ever wish, that any Kenyan would belong to a party that is repugnant to its own philosophy,ā he said.
Linturi further accused the party of tolerating corruption, abductions, and the brutal killing of young people, while also overtaxing Kenyans and showing no respect for women and children.
He also criticized the party for allegedly ignoring the Constitution and failing to listen to the citizens.
āIt is in this realization that I, Hon. Mithika Linturi, a patriotic Kenyan, tender my resignation as a member of the United Democratic Alliance ā UDA with immediate effect,ā the letter concluded.
Linturiās resignation follows that of Gachagua, who on May 12, 2025, also left UDA ahead of the planned launch of his new political party. In his own resignation letter, Gachagua said UDA had strayed from its original ideals and failed to deliver on its promises to the people.
He called UDA āthe most dangerous political movementā in the country and accused President William Ruto of misleading Kenyans with a false manifesto.
Gachagua claimed the government had failed to deliver meaningful results in sectors such as agriculture, MSMEs, housing, healthcare, the digital economy, and the creative industry. He also said the ruling party had neglected education, womenās issues, and social protection.
Gachagua is now expected to launch his own party and has already joined forces with opposition leaders Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua, and Fred Matiangāi. The group has promised to rally behind a single presidential candidate to challenge President Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
