Lucas François Bernard Hernández is a French professional footballer born on February 14, 1996, in Marseille, France.
He plays primarily as a centre-back or left-back for Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1 and for the France national team.
Hernández is known for his physical strength, versatility, aerial prowess, and ability to play on either side of central defence or as a full-back.
Of Spanish descent through his family roots, he moved to Spain as a child and rose through Atlético Madrid’s academy before enjoying successful spells at Bayern Munich and PSG.
Siblings
Lucas is the older brother of fellow professional footballer Théo Hernández, who plays as a left-back for AC Milan and the France national team.
The brothers, born just 19 months apart, share an exceptionally close bond and were raised primarily by their mother, Laurence Py, after their parents separated when Lucas was around six years old.
Their father, Jean-François Hernández, was a former professional centre-back who played in France and Spain, including for Atlético Madrid.

The siblings grew up together in Spain, progressed through youth football together at clubs like Rayo Majadahonda and Atlético Madrid’s academy, and have since represented France at senior level.
Career
Hernández began his football journey at Rayo Majadahonda before joining Atlético Madrid’s renowned youth academy in 2007.
He made his senior debut for Atlético in 2014 and gradually established himself in the first team, contributing to their 2018 Europa League victory.
In 2019, he transferred to Bayern Munich for a club-record fee at the time, where he won multiple Bundesliga titles and the 2020 UEFA Champions League as part of a historic treble.
After four seasons in Germany, he returned to France in 2023 by signing with Paris Saint-Germain.
At PSG, he has become a key defensive figure, adapting well to the demands of Ligue 1 and European competition while helping the team secure domestic success and a landmark UEFA Champions League title in 2025, completing another continental treble.
With France, he has been a regular since 2018, notably winning the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
