Abhishek Amitabh Bachchan, born on 5 February 1976 in Mumbai (then Bombay), Maharashtra, India, is an Indian actor, film producer, and voice artist who works primarily in Hindi cinema.
As a member of the prominent Bachchan family, he is the son of legendary actors Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan.
He grew up immersed in the film industry and received his early education at schools including Bombay Scottish School and Jamnabai Narsee School in Mumbai, followed by Modern School in New Delhi and Aiglon College in Switzerland.
He later enrolled at Boston University to study business or arts but left to pursue acting full-time in Mumbai.
Siblings
Abhishek has one elder sister, Shweta Bachchan Nanda.
Born in 1974, Shweta is an author and columnist who has largely stayed away from acting.
She is married to industrialist Nikhil Nanda, a member of the Kapoor family through his maternal lineage, and they have two children.
Career
Bachchan made his acting debut in 2000 with J.P. Dutta’s war drama Refugee, opposite Kareena Kapoor.

The early years of his career were marked by a series of commercially unsuccessful films, leading to intense scrutiny and comparisons with his father’s towering legacy.
His breakthrough came in 2004 with two significant projects: Mani Ratnam’s political drama Yuva, in which he played an intense gangster and earned widespread critical praise, and the action thriller Dhoom, which became a major commercial success and established him as a leading star.
He followed this with strong performances in Sarkar (2005) and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), along with the comedy Bunty Aur Babli (2005) and the ambitious biopic-inspired Guru (2007), one of his most acclaimed leading roles.
Other commercial successes include the Dhoom sequels (2006 and 2013), Dostana (2008), Bol Bachchan (2012), Happy New Year (2014), and Housefull 3 (2016).
As a producer, he backed Paa (2009), which starred his father and won national recognition.
Over the years he has appeared in more than 70 films, showcasing versatility across action, drama, comedy, and intense character roles, while also working as a voice artist and exploring digital platforms.
Accolades
Bachchan won three consecutive Filmfare Awards for Best Supporting Actor for Yuva (2004), Sarkar (2005), and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), a rare feat that placed him among select actors in Filmfare history.
He has earned additional Filmfare recognition, including a Best Actor win in later years for work such as I Want to Talk.
As a producer, Paa (2009) secured the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi.
He has also collected numerous other honors from Screen Awards, IIFA, Producers Guild Awards, and various popular and critics’ categories.
