A mob confronted and killed a man after he had murdered his father in a domestic feud in a village in Nyamache, Kisii County.

The incident happened in Emanwa location on Saturday September 20, 2025.

Police and villagers said one Enock Obwaya, 32, had attacked and killed his father identified as James Ongige Obwaya, 80 following a quarrel.

He used a club in the assault as his mother tried to separate him while screaming in vain as the man sustained serious head injuries.

Villagers rushed to the scene and attempted to pick the old man to the hospital but the assailant reportedly chased them threatening to harm anyone who made the attempts.

They abandoned the injured man on a footpath late in the evening and escaped for their safety as the assailant approached them while armed with a panga, police said.

The old man bled to death outside his gate. When the locals got news of the death, they gathered and hunted down Enock who tried to escape the home in vain.

He was caught up in a neighbouring village where he was beaten to death and his body set on fire, police said.

It was later established Enock had been released on bail on Thursday September 18, 2025 after being accused of assault at the Ogembo Law Coutts.

His father whom he attacked and killed was a witness in the case. Locals said the case was the motive behind his fatal attack on the old man.

Police arrived at the scene and moved the bodies to the mortuary pending an autopsy and investigations.

Such murder and mob lynching incidents have been on the rise in the region. Most of them are linked to land tussles, police say amid efforts to solve the cases.
