Detectives are investigating an incident where the body of a man was found hanged on a tree after he had been murdered in Magunga, Homa Bay County.

The motive of the murder of Jackonea Otila was not immediately established, police said of the July 22 incident.

The half-naked body of the man was found tied to a tree with sisal around his chest and hands.

Police said the body had multiple injuries on the back and face.

Neighbours said they heard commotion from the bush at night and, on checking on the source, they stumbled on the body.

The locals later called the police who picked up the body to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.

Police said Wednesday no arrest had been made over the incident.

Meanwhile, a passenger died in a bus as it raced to Nairobi from Mandera town.

The driver of the bus told police he was racing through Rhamu-Elwak-Garissa Road on Tuesday when a passenger requested him to stop for him to go for a call of nature.

He said he stopped and allowed him to get out and came back minutes later.

And after driving for about an hour, the driver was alerted by other passengers the passenger was unresponsive.

The passengers said he was dead. The driver said he stopped the bus and checked on the passenger confirming he was dead.

He later drove to Elwak town where he reported the matter.

It was established the victim had medical documents indicating he was headed for Nairobi for medical attention.

The body was taken to a local mortuary where an autopsy was conducted and the body released for burial.

Police did not disclose what the autopsy report said was the cause of the death.

The driver was later allowed to continue with the journey with the other passengers.
