A man has dragged to court Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and Beta Healthcare over fake condoms which he claims burst during intercourse, after which he contracted a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI).

The man has told the court that he bought his favourite Zoom scented condoms because he believed they would protect him and his partner from diseases.

It is after the pleasure filled session that the man noticed that the condom was broken. Brushing it off, he says in his sworn affidavit, he was intimate with his wife who unfortunately got infected as well.

He further reveals that on October 13, 2014 he noticed rashes on his genitals and pain while easing himself. He later sought help from a traditional herbalist but got seriously ill on or about 25 October.

“On or about 14th, I decided to return to Nairobi on or about 25th October. While on my way to Nairobi, I became seriously ill on the bus and had to seek for medical attention.”

He was diagnosed with an undisclosed STI and treated for the same. His now estranged wife was also admitted for having contracted a similar infection.

“My wife then became estranged and later left me for another man. After my wife left me, I became distressed burdened with guilt and even had a mental breakdown which led me to be an alcoholic and I lost my job.”

The man is now blaming BETA, KeBS and KRA for allowing a consignment of ZOOM condoms of questionable quality to unsuspecting Kenyans.

In fact he says, his friends have complained of the same brand of condoms breaking during intimacy.

This comes at a time when the government has vowed to crackdown on counterfeit goods.

CS Fred Matiang’i has said that there is mercury laced sugar in the market and are looking into ketchup tomato sauce, juices.
