Authorities are hunting for a convict who escaped from lawful custody in Kamiti Medium Prisons, Nairobi.
Kelvin Sifuna escaped from custody on Monday September 22, 2025 as he and other prisoners were busy working at a school compound while under guard of prison warders.
Officials said he was on fatigue duties at a local school’s quarters when the incident happened. The circumstances surrounding the escape were not immediately established.
He had been committed to serve seven years in prison for stealing a motor vehicle after his arrest in 2023.
He was sentenced on October 9, 2024 by a Kibera Court, officials said.
He was discovered missing at the prisons during mealtime.
A search conducted at the scene he was working on discovered the prison attire he wore dumped on the fence.
It is suspected he climbed the fence and escaped.
Police said he comes from Bokoli, Webuye, Bungoma County.
A manhunt on the man was immediately launched with hopes for his rearrest.
Officials said they suspect he is still holed up in Nairobi and appealed to him to surrender.
There are fears he may harm those who witnessed against him in court.
