Police are investigating an incident in which the body of a man was found floating on the Nairobi River in Dandora area.

The man, aged about 35 is believed to have either drowned or killed and thrown into the water.

The body was fresh when it was retrieved from the water on Sunday May 25 in the morning.

Locals had spotted the body and alerted police who arrived there minutes later.

The body was half-naked and was moved to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy.

Police said they are investigating the incident.

Elsewhere in Kisumu East’s Kirindo village, one Peter Onyango was found dead in the area.

The cause of the death was not immediately known, police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and probe.

Meanwhile, two minors died in a fire incident in a village in Ndaraweta, Kericho County.

The two had been left in their house without care when the fire broke out burning down their house, police said.

The children were aged seven and one and seven months old. Police said the incident happened in Kapcheluch village.

Their three-roomed house made of timber caught fire out of a burning jiko, killing them, police said.

The neighbours noticed the fire and rushed to the scene but could not salvage anything.

The mother of the children had left them in the house and went to pluck tea when the incident happened on May 23, police and locals said.

The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending investigations.

Fire incidents have been on the rise in major informal settlements.

In Nairobi, at least 15 people were killed in three separate fire incidents.

Many others were left homeless following the incidents in Kibera, Mukuru Kwa Njenga and Mathare slums.

Police say they are investigating the incidents where eight people were killed in Kibera, six in Mathare and one in Mukuru slums.

President William Ruto visited the Kibera scene on Sunday and donated food and construction materials to the affected.
