Mia Martina, born Martine Johnson on January 14, 1988, in Saint-Ignace, New Brunswick, Canada, is a Canadian singer and songwriter known for her contributions to dance-pop and EDM music.

Growing up in a small town, she developed a passion for music influenced by artists like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Selena Gomez.

Fluent in both French and English due to her father’s French heritage, Martina’s bilingual background has shaped her versatile artistry.

At 18, she moved to Ottawa to attend Carleton University, where a chance internship at CP Music Group sparked her music career.

Now based in Toronto, Martina has established herself as a multi-platinum international recording artist and author, with a career spanning over a decade.

Mia had three sisters, Leda, Loredana and Olivia.

However, nothing much is known about the three, including their personal lives or career pursuits, as they live a personal life compared to their famous sister.

    Career

Martina’s career took off in 2010 with her debut single, a cover of Edward Maya and Vika Jigulina’s “Stereo Love,” which reached number 10 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 and earned platinum certification.

The track’s success led to a Juno Award nomination for Dance Recording of the Year in 2011.

Her debut album, Devotion, released in 2011, peaked at number 77 on the Canadian Albums Chart and featured hits like “Latin Moon,” “Burning,” and “Go Crazy,” with “Latin Moon” achieving gold status.

Collaborations with artists like Don Omar and Massari further boosted her profile. In 2013, her single “Heartbreaker” charted in Canada and on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart, earning another Juno nomination.

Her 2014 self-titled album included Top 40 hit “Beast” and other charting singles like “La La” and “HFH (Heart Really Hurts).”

Martina continued to release music, with her 2017 single “Sooner or Later” featuring Kent Jones and her 2019 EP Daydream showcasing her evolving sound.

Beyond music, she authored a best-selling book, Boss Up Your Life: A Girl’s Guide to Her Dream Career, and has become a mentor and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community.

    Accolades

Martina’s breakthrough single “Stereo Love” achieved platinum sales and a 2011 Juno Award nomination for Dance Recording of the Year.

Her debut album Devotion earned nominations for Dance Recording of the Year at the 2012 Juno Awards and World Recording of the Year at the 2012 East Coast Music Awards.

The single “Heartbreaker” secured a third Juno nomination for Dance Recording of the Year in 2014.

Additionally, Martina won a SOCAN award in 2014 for co-writing “Burning,” reflecting her songwriting prowess.

With eight gold records and two platinum records, her chart-topping hits have solidified her status as a prominent figure in Canadian music.

Her advocacy and mentorship efforts, particularly for young women and the LGBTQ+ community, have further amplified her influence, culminating in the release of her best-selling book in 2019.
