    Mike Reilly is an American professional ice hockey defenseman who currently plays for the Carolina Hurricanes in the National Hockey League (NHL).

    Born on July 13, 1993, in Glenview, Illinois, he stands at 6 feet 1 inch or 6 feet 2 inches and weighs around 183 to 191 pounds.

    He shoots left and is recognized for his skating ability, offensive contributions from the back end, and two-way play.

    Drafted in the fourth round, 98th overall, by the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2011, he has played for several NHL teams including the Minnesota Wild, Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators, Boston Bruins, Florida Panthers, New York Islanders, and now the Hurricanes.

    Mike has twin older brothers, Connor and Ryan Reilly, who played forward and were his teammates at the University of Minnesota.

    His older sister Shannon played at Ohio State, while his younger sister Caitlin initially committed to Penn State before transferring to join the Gophers women’s team.

    The family often played pond hockey together on a frozen sport court, with the siblings deeply involved in the sport from a young age.

    Their father, Mike Reilly Sr., a former University of Minnesota player who was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens, along with their mother Lisa, fostered this environment.

    Career

    Reilly developed his game in Minnesota youth hockey programs and at Shattuck-St. Mary’s prep school, where he helped win a national championship.

    He then joined the Penticton Vees of the BCHL alongside his twin brothers, contributing to a record-setting season and national title.

    At the University of Minnesota, he excelled as a defenseman, earning multiple All-American honors and serving as a Hobey Baker finalist.

    He made his NHL debut with the Minnesota Wild in 2016 after signing as a free agent.

    Over his career, he has bounced between teams as a mobile, puck-moving defenseman valued for power-play contributions.

    Reilly has appeared in more than 450 NHL games, recording steady offensive production from the blue line while adapting to various defensive systems.

    Accolades

    Reilly’s college career at Minnesota stands out with Big Ten First All-Star Team honors, Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year awards, and NCAA West First All-American Team selections.

    In junior hockey, he earned BCHL Interior Conference Best Defenseman and First All-Star Team recognition while leading defensemen in scoring.

    He was also part of championship teams at both the USHL Tier I level with Shattuck-St. Mary’s and the BCHL/RBC Cup with Penticton.
