
The Ministry of Agriculture failed to appear before the public accounts committee this morning to give an explanation on the books of account for the expenditures of the National Cereal and Produce Board (NCPB).
They were summoned to answer for the accounts of the irregular purchase and sale of maize and fertilizer.
26 staff have so far been sacked and 59 staff suspended together with regional and silo managers to pave way for investigation.

The NCPB staff are said to have collaborated with unscrupulous traders to repackage the subsidized fertilizers for commercial sale, denying the farmers the subsidized manure.
Principal Secretary, Richard Lesiyampe and Head of Research, Professor Hamadi Boga have also been summoned to appear before the committee tomorrow at 10 am to give account of how the money was spent.
Sources stated that eight traders were paid Ksh.1.9 billion money that would have been used to pay close to 4,000 farmers.
