The Ministry of Health has announced plans to roll out artificial intelligence (AI)-powered chatbots to make it easier for Kenyans to access health services at any time.

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale said the new technology will be integrated into the TaifaCare Support Centre, which operates the toll-free line 147. Duale made the remarks during a visit to the Nairobi-based facility, where he reviewed its progress in strengthening Kenya’s healthcare system.

According to the CS, TaifaCare has handled more than one million calls since it was launched less than a year ago. The centre provides information, resolves complaints, and guides citizens on the Social Health Authority (SHA) insurance scheme.

“The initiative is about building trust and ensuring your concerns directly shape the way we deliver universal health coverage,” Duale said.

He added that the use of AI will ensure faster responses and improve feedback collection. “This move is a testament to our commitment to a more responsive, transparent, and efficient healthcare system,” he said.

The TaifaCare call centre operates around the clock and serves members of the public, healthcare providers, and employers by addressing queries on registration, claims, and access to services under the new health system.
