More Internal Wrangles Rock NASA As ODM Dominates House Committees

More disquiet looms within the National Super Alliance (Nasa) as cries of being ‘sidelined’ continues in the placement to house committees.

Yesterday, Leader of Minority John Mbadi  presented to the office of the Clerk names of members who will sit in three committees. Of the 16 members to sit in the House Business Committee, Procedure and Rules and the Selection Committees, 11 are from ODM.

Those named in the House Business Committee are, Robert Mbui, Chris Wamalwa and Beatrice Adagala. In the Procedure and Rule, the coalition will be represented by Ben Momanyi, Tom Kajwang, Omboko Milemba, Olago Aluoch, Sulekha Hassan and Pamela Odhiambo.

In the Selection Committee, Nasa fielded Junnet Mohamed, Florence Mutua, Geofrey Osotsi, Makali Mulu, Owen Mbaya, Ahmed Ibrahim and Esther Passaris.

Mbadi further declined to issue names of its MPs to sit in the Committee on Appointments because it did not recognize Uhuru Kenyatta’s presidency.

Mbadi told the Clerk according to the alliance, the Presidency was yet to be filled substantively and as such, there was no reason to constitute the House Committee whose sole mandate is to vet nominees to the Cabinet.

Momanyi said members allied to Wiper and ANC parties were contemplating turning down their positions in the committees if their demands to be included in the leadership positions are not addressed.

ANC is set to have a meeting today at its Lavington headquarters and amongst other things discuss its stay in NASA.
