A section of Members of Parliament have vowed to block French Company OT Morpho from participating in government tenders after its directors snubbed summons by the Public Accounts Committee.

The committee chaired by Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi, has now given the Company a one week grace period before a final report is drafted.

““We have enough teeth and that will be demonstrated when writing our report. They will have to appear on February 18. If they fail, we’ll surely pronounce ourselves on them,” Wandayi said on Monday.

OT Morpho company which supplied information technology equipment for the August 8, 2017, General Election, is reported to have won another tender in the upcoming census process.

According to unconfirmed reports, the company now risks losing the tender if its directors snub the scheduled Monday summon.

The Independent and Boundaries Commission was on the spot for awarding the company a Ksh6 billion tender to supply voter identification and results transmission kits (KIEMS) for the General Election.

Further, the French firm hit headlines after opposition leader Raila Odinga alleged that it had participated in the rigging of the elections in favor of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In a petition to have Kenyatta’s win declared null and void, NASA accused the firm of colluding with the Jubilee party to steal the elections.

The firm which has now rebranded to IDEMIA  after a merger with Oberthur Technologies, dismissed the claims and went ahead to sue Raila Odinga and the three other NASA co-principals for defamation.

The French company told the court that during and after the election politicians made statements insinuating that it had engaged in irregularities. These statements which were repeated in the media, resulting in damage to its reputation, the company says.

In August last year, the firm withdrew the case against the opposition leader and his co-principals saying they were no longer interested in pursuing the matter.

Odinga has since united with Kenyatta through the much hyped handshake after losing a petition to have repeat elections annulled.
