Naftali Njahi Kinuthia, the man who is alleged to have killed Ivy Wangechi, is responding well to treatment, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) CEO, Dr Wilson Aruasa , says.

Initial reports indicated Kinuthia was hospitalized at the facility while in a critical condition.

On Tuesday, the doctors at MTRH said the man was ‘extremely at risk’.

Speaking to a local media on Wednesday, Dr Aruasa disclosed that Kinuthia is now in a stable condition following medical intervention at the facility.

“As we speak, he is still undergoing treatment in the hospital. We have administered him with medicine and water,” he said.

He noted that Kinuthia’s kin had also visited him at hospital.

“His parents have come to see him. He is under the close watch of the National Police Service and the DCI, ” the CEO said.

The Doctor confirmed that security agencies were free to start interrogating Kinuthia, to establish the mystery behind the killing.

“The two agencies will now embark on interrogating him in order to find out why he killed the woman,” the officer added.

Kinuthia, an employee of betting firm SportPesa, shot to the limelight on Tuesday after he cut Ms Wangechi – a Moi University student taking practicals at MTRH – with an axe.

Initial reports indicated the two were in a romantic relationship that had gone sour.

Ms Wangeci is accused of cheating and infecting Kinuthia with HIV.

However, reports from close friends indicate the man was a childhood friend turned stalker, who kept pestering Wangeci with romantic approaches.

He is said to have sent Wangechi several gifts including a phone and money.

Detectives are yet to unravel the truth behind the killing.
