Former Garsen MP Danson Mungatana aka “Mla mamba” tipped off the police about the West African con artists caught with fake 1 billion currency in dollars and Euros on October 1 along Brookside Drive in Westlands.

The Mali nationals Abdoulaye Tamba and Abdalla Tamba, and a Kenyan Anthony Mwangangi will be detained for 15 days to allow the police probe the issue.

According to the Nairobian, the former Assistant minister for Medical Services first invested just a couple of millions in the “wash wash” scheme only to get four times the initial investment.

So good was the business that between March and September this year, Mungatana gave the conmen Sh76 million wanting it to be multiplied into a billion shillings.

This, the Nairobian says was the beginning of the end for the former Tana River Governor aspirant. Already knee deep in debts, he sold a prime plot in Nairobi’s posh Karen estate and later on gave the trio his Mercedes to sell.

Even after giving up the car, the men kept on coming back for more which prompted the University of Nairobi Trade and Investment Law graduate to run to the police but declined to record a statement for fear of public ridicule.

Police told the public that they were acting on a tip off when they made the arrests. Mungatana’s car has since been recovered and is being held as an exhibit.

It is not not known when his financial situation went bad but is said to be dodging “creditors, battling auctioneers and skirts from court process servers.”

He apparently was sued by a businessman, David Mahugu for selling him a Range Rover (REG NO. KBG 496K) that was later seized by Equity Bank over a Sh3.8 million debt.

The Ruaraka Land owner Francis Mburu also says that Mungatana has failed to repay a Sh4.2 million loan while Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula claims that he loaned him Sh12 million which he is yet to pay back.

Wetangula, the Nairobian reports was issued with bad cheques by the former legislator.

Mungatana, husband to K24’s Mwanaisha Chidzuga, is also said to owe Equatorial Bank Sh7.5 million.
