Motorists in Nairobi have been advised to prepare for heavy traffic disruption along the Thika Superhighway and nearby areas on Saturday, August 30, during the African Nations Championship (CHAN) final.

In a notice issued on Friday, August 29, the National Police Service (NPS) said the road closures and diversions will mainly affect those heading to and from the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD), as thousands of fans are expected at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, where Morocco will face Madagascar in the final.

Police said additional officers had been deployed to manage traffic and warned motorists against breaking traffic rules.

The Thika Superhighway will be the most affected, with several diversions put in place. Motorists travelling from the CBD towards Ruiru, Juja, or Thika have been advised to use Kiambu Road through Exit 4, with a roadblock set up at Muthaiga to redirect traffic.

Those using the highway to head towards Mwiki should divert via Ruaka–Baba Ndogo–Lucky Summer–Nairobi River–Mwiki route.

Motorists coming from Thika, Juja, and Ruiru to the CBD are advised to use the Northern Bypass or Kiambu Road. A roadblock will also be placed at the Ruiru Interchange.

Drivers heading to the CBD from Githurai are advised to use the Githurai 44 route and connect to Kiambu Road.

Fans travelling to Kasarani Stadium from the CBD without official vehicle access passes will be required to use the service lanes at Exit 7 and Exit 8.

Police assured the public that they are working with other agencies to minimize disruption and ensure safety during the event.

On the pitch, Morocco will be chasing a record third CHAN title, while Madagascar will be seeking their first-ever continental championship after an impressive campaign.

Morocco advanced to the final after defeating Senegal 5-3 on penalties in the semi-finals, having earlier knocked out co-host Tanzania in the quarter-finals.

Madagascar, on their part, stunned Kenya 4-3 on penalties in the quarter-finals before edging Sudan 1-0 in extra time to book their spot in the final.

An elaborate closing ceremony is expected before kick-off, and fans have been urged to arrive at least three hours early to avoid delays.
