The National Assembly has approved nominees to 63 National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NGCDF) Committees, paving the way for the disbursement of bursaries and implementation of constituency-level development projects.

While moving the motion, Eldama Ravine MP Musa Sirma, who chairs the Committee on NGCDF, stressed the urgency of the appointments, noting that delays in constituting the committees had stalled access to crucial funds.

“These names are necessary for the operationalization of the NGCDF, especially since the board has already released some funds for bursaries. However, these funds remain inaccessible as the terms of previous committees have expired, leaving us without signatories,” Sirma said.

He further expressed concern over the slow release of funds by the National Treasury, revealing that only Sh14 billion of the Sh54 billion allocated for the financial year had been disbursed.

“We are already in the final quarter of the disbursement period, yet the Treasury has only released a fraction of the funds. It is time the remaining balance is disbursed so that development projects can proceed without further delays,” he added.

The approved constituencies include Alego Usonga, Bomachoge Borabu, Budalang’i, Embakasi North, Gichugu, Kesses, Kinango, and Likuyani, among others.

Lawmakers have urged the Treasury to expedite the release of the remaining funds to ensure development projects are implemented as planned.
