Jubilee Party presidential hopeful Fred Matiang’i has assured aspirants that the party will conduct free, fair, and transparent primaries, insisting there will be “no sacred cows” in the nomination process.
Speaking during a meeting with aspirants in Borabu on Friday, Matiang’i said there was no cause for concern, noting that systems have been put in place to guarantee credible internal elections.
He emphasized that there would be no favoritism when the party convenes to determine its flagbearers.
“That is a foregone conclusion—those who will lose must support those who win so that we can forge a united front going forward,” said the former Interior Cabinet Secretary.
The meeting brought together grassroots leaders and political hopefuls from the Gusii and Kuria regions seeking various Jubilee Party tickets.
Party chairperson Vincent Kemosi underscored the importance of credible nominations in strengthening unity and enhancing the party’s democratic credentials. He noted that the integrity of the process will be key to building public trust ahead of the general election.
“We are committed to ensuring that every aspirant gets a fair chance and that the will of Jubilee members prevails. Free and fair primaries are the foundation of a strong and united party,” he said.
Matiang’i also urged party officials to remain accountable and neutral throughout the exercise, warning against any malpractice that could erode confidence in the process.
“The era of doubt is over. This party will show the country what real democracy looks like,” he said.
He further called on aspirants to focus on issue-based campaigns and avoid divisive politics.
Reiterating his vision to revitalize the Jubilee Party, Matiang’i said credible internal elections would position the party as a formidable force on the national stage.
The assurances were welcomed by aspirants, with at least 1,000 individuals from Gusii and Kuria expressing interest in vying on the Jubilee Party ticket.
The party is expected to release detailed nomination guidelines in the coming weeks.
Separately, Matiang’i cautioned against unaffiliated groups allegedly using his name and image without authorization. He warned supporters to be vigilant against misinformation, noting that some outfits operating outside official party structures were falsely claiming to advance his candidacy.
He urged those wishing to support his bid to do so strictly within the framework of the Jubilee Party.
