The upcoming recruitment of 10,000 police constables will be transparent, the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has assured Members of Parliament.
Appearing before the Parliamentary Committee on Delegated Legislation chaired by Ainabkoi MP Samuel Chepkong’a, NPSC commissioners led by Chairperson Dr. Amani Komora said new regulations will ensure fairness and merit in the process. NPSC CEO Peter Leley and other secretariat members also attended the session.
The exercise will run from October 3 to October 9, 2025, in 416 centres across the country. It targets Kenyans aged 18 to 28 with at least a D+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). Applicants must present original academic certificates and national identification cards.
Committee members, including Vice Chairperson and Gichugu MP Robert Gichimu, pressed the Commission to explain how it would guarantee integrity in the process. “This Commission was recently constituted. Can you assure Kenyans that the planned recruitment will be transparent?” Chepkong’a asked.
In response, Dr. Komora said the new recruitment regulations are designed to promote accountability and rebuild public trust. “We want to assure the nation that the exercise will be free, fair, and transparent. Officers supervising recruitment will take an oath of integrity and will be held personally responsible if they break the law,” he said.
MPs also expressed concern over the plan to conduct applications online, warning it could lock out young people without internet access. Leley clarified that a hybrid system will be used. “We will not discriminate against anyone. Our officers will have gadgets on the ground to help applicants complete the process,” he said.
